Up in the Trees
I wanted to take a bunch of pictures on a drive back to Chicago from Orlando last month, but we mostly just decided to drive straight through so I didn't have many photo opportunities. However, you make do with what you have. I jumped out of the camper in Georgia, north of Atlanta where we stayed overnight and just looked up. The canopy was beautiful and I was able to get at least one shot for the day that I could use for the blog. Sometimes you just have to look around for something interesting to shoot.

Tulips in the City
I think it is hard to take bad pictures of tulips. They are such a colorful plant. The city of Chicago planted some along my walking path from Union Station to work. Of course, with colors like these, I had to take a picture.

Maui In Shallow Blue
Coming up for air during a recent trip to Maui caught some deep blue hues in the water and in the local tropic fish. No need for photo enhancement here.

Dick Tracy in Naperville
Good to be back home after another long trip so I thought I would post a shot of Dick Tracy I took this winter of the famous crime fighter protecting Naperville while I have been gone. I originally thought this was just a random statue but writer Dick Locher, who writes the comic stripe's story line, has lived in Naperville since 1969. Good to have Dick watching over Riverwalk near downtown Naperville.

Butchertown, Louisville, Ky
This is an old area along the Ohio River right on the outskirts of downtown Louisville. The area is the site of old trading posts, including slave traders back in pre-civil war days. I think these buildings are more modern than that era and looks like the area is trying to revitalize once again as a restaurant and bar scene. In the meantime, love the old buildings.

Claes Oldenburg in Las Vegas
Why is their a big typewritter eraser on the public walkway near City Center in Las Vegas? I don't know. However, someone thought a big eraser by Claes Oldneburg would be perfect for that spot, so there it is.

Reclining Forms Las Vegas
I can't believe that I haven't posted this before but I really like this shot that I took last year in a trip for work to Las Vegas. We stayed at the City Center which I like as it is in the center of the strip. This is a piece of art located near the hotel entrance from Henry Moore called "Reclining Connected Forms" which describes this piece of work very well.

Coming in for a Landing
Last fall I rented a 600 mm lens for a weekend and headed to a farm field in Indiana to shoot some shots of SandHill Cranes on the way from Canada to Florida. That lens is a huge piece of glass, very heavy, but allows the photographer to shoot items in sharp views from very far away. These four chose to come our way as if they were coming in for a landing. Love the stacked set-up.

The San Juan Accordion Player
I took a picture of this guy the last time I was in Old San Juan. He was in the same spot this trip so, obviously, this is a common shot by tourists visiting the area. When you take the same shot as everyone else, you have to mix it up. While this blog is about color in the world, this shot screamed black and white.

A little taste of Miami Beach
Here is a little shot of one of the buildings in the Art Deco District of Miami Beach, an area that Cheryl and I are going to get to visit later this year for a vacation spot. I hit the area for work and took a few warm up shots. I love the Art Deco District, which is an area about two blocks wide and about a 15 blocks long in Miami Beach. I got to finance the rehabilitation of two of the buildings when the area was just a run-down mess back in the late 1980's. I feel like I might have had a small impact in getting the current rehab wave started about 22 years ago. The reason I know that we were on the cutting edge of the rehab wave was that the building that I financed was for Section 8 housing and the developer tried to default on their Section 8 certificates a couple of years later when the area starting taking off. They realized that they could make a lot more money turning the building into an upscale hotel rather than Section 8 housing. More on that when Cheryl and I get to visit later this year.
