Strong Colors: Golden Hour

This is why they call it Golden Hour. The last hour before the sun sets the light travels through more and more atmosphere to get to your location. The light bends and as it does, it shifts to the warmer spectrum. Some location as yesterday's Shot of the Day, just about an hour earlier. Naples, Beach 2012.

Strong Colors: Squashed Sun and Pelican

Another colorful sunset in Naples the same evening as yesterday's Shot of the Day caught this "squashed" sun setting with a pelican flying through. I like the unbalance nature of this crop for some reason. Usually, I would put the subject in the center but something drew me to the offset nature of this shot.

Strong Colors: Red Take-off

An evening walk back in 2012 got stopped by a red take off as these White Ibis decided to cut in front of the sun. Naples Beach is a great beach for viewing shorebirds and gives wonderful sunsets. This is one view I would not mind seeing again when travel returns.

Strong Colors: Soon

Spring on the calendar but not yet in the skies or on the ground. Soon. But not yet. At least in Chicago. Does waiting for spring weather, make spring weather better?

Strong Colors: Orange Sunrise

An ocean sunrise off of Martha's Vineyard way back in 2011.

Stephanie, Anthony and the kids

I can't believe I got everyone to sit and look at the camera for a quick family picture. Love this one.

Favorite Shot

Happy Birthday Cheryl. I am kinda bummed that Jono actually took this shot way back in 2006 because it is one of my favorite shots of Cheryl. I have a lot of favorite shots of Cheryl but this one is up there. Jono was being annoying as we were walking around Paris while on vacation, so I gave him my camera to amuse himself. He ended up with this excellent shot (and a lot of great shots that day). Love you babe. I did put the Love filter on so I get photo credit as well. Great weather today. The grandkids are over and we have some fun planned. Happy Birthday to you and let's hope and pray for a great year ahead.

Strong Colors: Florida Sunrise

It is cold, grey, rainy day in Chicago so I can use some strong colors this morning. So, here is a sunrise shot off of Pompano Beach, Florida. Some of my old work trip hotels were in real nice locations and this was one of them.

Just a little bit early

The Common Grackles showed up for the first time this year and by the calendar, right on time but by the weather, a little bit early. They must be going, "what the heck!!!" Yes, it is nearly Spring in Chicago which means we still get some snow. Nothing that stuck however, although the sidewalks and driveways were quite slippery. These two I am naming Michael Jr and Jono as when theythey love to fight as you can see below:

Apparently, the Grackle's come with their army. We had three trees filled with Grackle's.

Strong Colors: New York Flower District

New York is a place of noise, colors, smells (some of them not so good!), shapes and sizes. On my last several trips to the city, I had been staying in the flower district, where all the flower shops get their supplies. Makes for an interesting walk on the sidewalk, but gives lots of colors to see as you go by. This shot is from a trip back in October 2019.

Strong Colors: Navy Pier Carnival Swing

A 6 am summer morning Chicago walk-a-round brought out the colors in the "blue" hour, the time in the day when the sun is just rising or setting. During that time you can get strong colors in the sky and warm shadows on the ground. This shot brings them both. From a 2008 early June summer morning.
