New York Ties that bind

Just messing around with filters this week. It is an acquired taste and shouldn't be overused. But sometimes you have to say, what the heck.....

New York street hat cart with a little Photoshop painterly filer thrown in for fun. Makes the picture look a bit like a painted view.

I should have kept the blue theme going. Love the splash of color on the streets of New York.

South San Francisco

I always see this sign from the airport out of the San Francisco airport and sometimes from the plane if I get a window seat. This last trip I had a rental car and time to kill so I drove towards the sign to get a better view. Apparently, they are proud of their industrial roots--and why not?

Monticello Swans

Just hanging around. Its what I like to do in Monticello. Camping season starts in April.

Roanoke Rail

The City of Roanoke has a long history with trains and coal and some of that was on display in a building that I visited while there last year.

Not sure if I would want to get a cut and shave here, but it was an interesting front window display.

Downtown Mermaids

With all this color, how could I not take a picture of downtown Las Vegas Mermaids casino? However, it has another significance. See that sign on top? Fried Twinkies for 0.99 cents? Yep. My local salesperson had to try them out, so I took a bite as well. Hard to describe the taste. A crunchy twinkie comes to mind. Mostly, I don't want to think about it. Love the colors, however.

Time to Read

Love the sentiment. Never have enough time to read. Buy a lot of books, though. Not a good combination. This clock was in Edgartown on Martha's Vineyard.

Valentine's Day

Just doing the math, if I have this right, it will be 38 years next month that I asked a young lady out to a movie (if you have to know, it was Towering Inferno) and she said yes.  She was a sophomore. I was a big, bad senior. Almost 32 years of marriage later, 4 great kids, 2 wonderful grandkids later still going strong. 

Still Undefeated

The Stanley Cup ring visited Davern's Tavern last month. Quite spectacular.  Go Blackhawks.

New York at Christmas

Lots going on in this New York Christmas window display. New York City right before Christmas is a fun place, especially if you get lucky with the weather. A fun place to walk around. There is something about the craziness of massive crowds all trying to see the same sights.

Ice Skating at Rockefeller Plaza

Classic tourist shot, so I had to take one as well. Ice skating at Rockefeller Plaza New York.

Cummings Beach Park, Stamford Connecticut

Went for a morning run before heading out to work last fall. Made it from the hotel to Cummings Beach Park in Stamford, Connecticut. Looks like a nice place to live.

Cayman Fish Market

Caught this view why walking to a local watering hole on our trip to the Cayman's last summer. Don't know what kind of fish they were, but there were a lot of them.

Neptune Rising

Actually, I am not sure if he is rising or falling or just laying around, but saw this colorful carving on the side of a tourist boat in Grand Cayman so I had to shoot it, of course.

Portland Signs

The key to good sign shots is to catch the light just right--at dusk when the lights are coming on and the sky still has some lights in it. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to do that right here, but I liked this old fashioned sign anyway.

Pepsi Cola from Empire State Building

This looks quite close, but it is actually across the East River from the top of the Empire State Building. The splash of red drew my eye and the camera, lens, software combination brought it in close. Love these old time signs., A part of Americana that is slowly going away.
