Going back to School--Chapel Hill
I imagine that these three students are all back at classes by now at Chapel Hill. I don't know why the gentleman in the middle is wearing some sort of Top Hat, but I like his style.

Frankfort Indiana Justice
OK, I get that Justice has to be blind, but the sword? Not sure about that. From top of Frankfort, Indiana courthouse.

"Shot"of the Day in Bridgeport
My brother, Joe, got me into the MMA fights at Toyota Park in Bridgeview where I became the "official" photographer. Interesting seeing the fights up close. This was a boxing match and easily becomes the "shot" of the day as that last punch put this big guy down. He got back up, but the match was called not long after.

Jackson Mississippi Greyhound Bus Station
Freedom Riders fought here for the right to sit anywhere on the bus. A little bit of history on a non-descript street in downtown Jackson, Mississippi.

Greenville Reedy River Falls
I was not aware of the city of Greenville and the beautiful just within the downtown area. Beautiful falls and a beautiful little city.

Ocean Bridge, Georgetown, SC
Traveling from Myrtle Beach to Georgetown get you to this gorgeous bridge over the Atlantic Ocean channel.

Clouds coming in over Southern Milky Way
One interesting difference in truly dark skies is that the clouds come in black at night as there are no earth based lights bouncing off of them. Stars shining behind the clouds look very dramatic as a result.

Storm's Coming
With such big, open skies in Nebraska, if a storm is coming in, you know it. Not a great night for astronomy, but some nice visuals after all. If this storm was coming in over Naperville, you wouldn't really see it, except between houses and trees. Not the case at the Snake River Campground in north central Nebraska.

Summer's Winding Down
Got to take Clio to the park on a beautiful fall day in August. Cool summer hopefully leads to a nice, long fall. Ama is still many weeks away from getting to drop her sling. In any case, Stephi had fun.

Frankfort, Indiana 1884
The sign on the top of the building in downtown Frankfort, Indiana says 1884 but I don't think the original owners had it painted that way. I was also surprised to see a Pepe's for some reason in downtown Frankfort. Happy, but surprised. Too bad I already had lunch. Maybe next time.

Indiana Road Trip
Had to travel from Monticello, where I keep my camper to Indianapolis for a meeting and I decided to get off Interstate 65 and take some of the back roads to see what I can see. Found some nice small cities with lots of photographic possibilities. Loved the colors here in the small downtown of Kiklin, Indiana.

Nebraska Star Party
Here is what happens when a group of amateur astronomers get together in a really dark location--like at the Nebraska Star Party near Valentine, Nebraska. We stand around and wait until it gets dark.

Nebraska Wheat Fields
This seems like the type of shot that every photographer has to take so I had to take this shot as well. Love the depth of field shown by the hills and clouds in the background. Shot in Nebraska on the way to the Nebraska Star Party.

Southern Sky from Northern Nebraska
One of the darkest night skies in the country can be found in north central Nebraska, in our instance, not far from the Merritt Resort, Snake River Campground, near Valentine, Nebraska. This view is towards the galactic center, in the direction of the constellation Sagittarius. Clouds come in dark in truly dark skies, not like in light polluted cities where cloud bottoms come in lite up from city lights.

The Sky in Valentine and in Naperville
Trying here to show what a good sky in Naperville might look like vs the skies we saw at the Snake River Campground on the banks of the Niobrara River near Valentine, Nebraska. One of the darkest skies left in the country, well outside of any light dome.
