A Turkey Vulture looking for his next meal

 

If this guy and his or her friends are all staring at you, then things are not good. Luckily, I was just starting a hike and not nearing death so far as I know. This is an amazingly large bird. His friends were all sitting on an abandoned building and were having quite a party. 

Scarlet Tanager

 

You would think you need to go to South America or some other parts of the tropics to see a bird like this but I looked up and saw it at the Indiana Dunes National Park. So, so red that I new it had to be a Scarlet Tanager, even though I had never seen one before. And this little guy posed so nicely for me with the trees, flowers and beautiful blue sky in the background. Took my breath away.
