When I took this shot, I was thinking there wasn't cable TV when this building was built. Turns out I was right. The building was built in the late 1890's and this was the headquarters of the Metropolitan Traction Company, which ran many of the NYC cable cars. Wonderful American Renaissance building listed on the National Register of Historic Buildings.

1,000th Post--Empire State Building all lit up
According to Blogger, this is my 1,000th post. I probably have more NYC shots than any other location but it is such a photographic city. Always a view worth shooting. This is from my hotel room last week. The dirty window caused the building to glow.

Knickerbocker NYC
Always one of my favorite buildings in New York. Well lit at night and very colorful. Right at 42nd and Broadway. Now with much less traffic as Broadway is closed as a pedestrian walkway.

NYC Times Square Flag
Always good for a picture with color and light. Helps that the street has been paved and now Broadway in Times Square is a walkway.

New Orleans Carousel
This bar at the Hotel Monteleone is a rotating carousel. The whole bar moves around at a slow and steady pace. A very cool trick.

Streets of New Orleans
Not all the streets near the New Orleans French Quarter are small and dirty, although many are that way. This area near the Jackson Square is quite nice. Had an old time look with the lights in the dusk.

MLK Day
Powerful statue of Dr. MLK near the Washington Monument. I posted the shot from straight on that I have seen numerous times back in November. From straight on it is a powerful pose. Dr. King is looking out to the future. I think it is a somewhat hopeful expression. (See below.) This shot from the side makes the good doctor look pretty angry and impatient. Interesting perspective.

New Orleans Jazz Notes
If you know jazz (and I do not) you would know that this is Pete Fountain, of course. (I knew as I looked at the name on the statue). However, I do know that jazz has lots and lots of notes....so I made some of my own....

This Turtle Looks Cold....
Although it is -5 in Chicago and this turtle looks cold, he is not as he is in Clearwater on the beach waiting for the sun to rise. I should be there as well. Unfortunately, not.

Landscape Painting
I love what I was able to do with this shot in post production so I think I will nominate it as my "shot of the year" at least in the landscape category. From the Red Rocks entrance area near Las Vegas.

Pittsburg Ice Fountain
While it hasn't been too, too cold this winter, it has dropped below freezing a few times. Better than last year, unless you want to shoot snow shots. Haven't had that yet in Chicago. This shot is from earlier this winter in Pittsburg. Someone forget to turn off the water fountain.
