Naperville, Illinois -- City of Murals
Three of the more spectacular murals are on Chicago Avenue on the side of the Sullivan's Steak House restaurant. These art deco murals show the history of Naperville, with this side showing early Naperville with the Burlington Northern train, industrial efforts in WW2 and other signs of a growing Naperville, including the Kroehler Furniture Warehouse and the Stenger Brewery.

Naperville, Illinois -- City of Murals
Mural shot number 7 in downtown Naperville is part of another full length building mural right off of Washington Avenue showing scenes of older views of the downtown area. Using murals is a good way to preserve the past which is rapidly changing even as I type this. The building across the street from this mural was torn down last week. Not sure what is going up but I hope it is not another bank or doctor's office.

Naperville, Illinois--City of Murals
This isn't going to be a permanent display as it is wearing away fast. Not sure what this is for but it counts as a mural in my book. I will have to go into the building and ask around. I think it is attached to a Heaven on Seven restaurant and I have been wanted to go there to eat anyway. Faces of Naperville perhaps?

Naperville, Illinois--City of Murals
One of the biggest murals in downtown Naperville is right on Washington and Maple, the main intersection of our town. The building houses The Lantern, a bar that has basically stayed the same since I went to college in the late 1970's in nearby Lisle, Illinois. The Lantern has been owned by the same family for over 50 years and the bar inside hasn't changed much as the city has continued to change and grow around it. Other bars come and go and the Lantern remains, mostly unchanged. I think I have only been in the establishment twice, once back in the late 70's and only once since we started living here 20+ years ago. I should give it at least another visit.

Naperville, Illinois--City of Murals
Another view of one of the larger murals in downtown Naperville. By my count, we have about 14 murals around the downtown area and I may have missed a few.

Missing the wide open west
I'm missing the wide open road of the west. Just had to cancel our trip this year to Yellowstone. Going to set it up for 2 weeks for next year. One week was just not going to cut it. Who is in to go?

Bar Color
Just attracted by the color like a moth to the flame. This is a bar/restaurant in Cincinnati that I was at for lunch a few weeks ago and now I can't remember the name. Oh well, still like the colors.

Millennium Park Columns
I've walked past this display near the corner of Randolph and Michigan in Millennium Park probably a couple of dozen times over the years and never paid this area much attention. However, this weekend, in the rain and cold hustling to get my car, I stopped to take a quick picture. The light makes a difference. In broad daylight, this is a bunch of columns and a pool. At night, or I bet when the light is good during the day, this is a wonderful view. Anyway, the purple struck my eye enough to take a quick rain soaked shot.
Signs of Spring
I can't find signs of spring outside (cold, windy and rainy today) so I keep looking for signs inside my photo catalog. Here is a shot from a Dallas botanical garden.

Spring Snow
This would be a beautiful scene if it were in November or even in December but in April the beauty is a bit lost on me. Pretty enough to snap a cell phone shot. Not pretty enough to enjoy. By the evening it was all gone. At least April gives us that. I am ready for spring weather. It is supposed to be 70 on Wednesday!!!

Baltimore Inner Harbor
Baltimore Inner Harbor has one of my favorite Barnes and Noble's book stores, a huge facility located in an old power plant. Great repurpose of an old building. Plus you have a lots of tourist trap diners like the Hard Rock Cafe, Dick's Last Resort and other go-to food and drink establishments. Three of my favorite pastimes: reading, eating and drinking all in one place. Throw a ball game on the TV and you got it made.

White Cherry Blossoms at Baltimore Inner Harbor
Caught some white cherry blossoms in full bloom in a very chilly Baltimore this past week. Cherry blossoms are beautiful to see. This group was located along the Baltimore Inner Harbor. Baltimore doesn't have the huge number of trees like you can find in nearby city of Washington, but this small group of trees made for a fine display.

Forest Ghost
When a photographer is bored he or she sometimes goes through their old catalog. And then sometimes you see something in a photograph that may or may not have been there when the picture was taken in the first place. This could be one of those times....or not....

Brother Joe on stage
After years of playing down in the basement at Davern's Tavern, we finally got Joe to come out to the main stage and give a performance. He was amazing.
