Chain Mail. Can you wear to a party after the 1600s?

 

Is wearing chain mail still appropriate after the 1600s? Asking for a friend. (I do love how the patrons at the Bristol Renaissance Faire get into the act. Strange and well, just strange. Yet they seem to love it.)
