A 15 minute or so hike from your car gets you into the St. Louis Canyon in Starved Rock State Park in Illinois. That hike nets you a wonderful view of some ice falls if the weather has accommodated, and it was pretty darn cold around the turn of this year. So cold, that not many braved the walk down to the falls, so I had the area all to myself. If you live in the area, definitely worth a visit.
