A trip to the Indiana Dunes National Park brought me face-to-face with this beautiful bird. Haven't been to the Dune since high school and this was my first visit since the park received its National Park designation. I joined a birding group last spring and after we were done, I took a final walk on my own along one of the trails and that put me 20 feet from a Scarlet Tanager, a lifer for me. This beautiful bird sat for his portrait with a wonderful sky blue background to highlight his bright red coat. Quite the experience and took my breath away.
